CAMBER – Crowdsourced Pavement Intelligence

This Privacy Policy explains how the CAMBER mobile application collects, uses, and protects information during its operation.

Purpose of Data Processing

The application collects pavement and cycling infrastructure condition data for research, testing, and infrastructure monitoring purposes.

Data Collected

The application may collect:

• Sensor data from the mobile device
• Video recordings and images of road and cycling infrastructure
• Location information related to the recorded road segments
• Technical information related to the device and application performance

The application is designed to collect infrastructure data and does not intentionally collect personal identification data.

However, video recordings captured in public environments may incidentally include faces, vehicle licence plates, or other identifiable elements.

Such elements are not used to identify individuals and may be anonymised or processed to minimise identification where technically feasible.

Data Usage

Collected data may be used for:

• Road and cycling infrastructure condition assessment
• Detection of pavement defects and road hazards
• Research and development of analysis algorithms
• Improvement of the application and related services

Data may be analysed using artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques.

Data Storage and Security

Data may be securely transmitted and stored on backend servers managed by the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS) or authorised project partners such as eTRIKALA.

Appropriate technical and organisational security measures are implemented to protect the data from unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or loss.

Data Sharing

Data may be shared with authorised partners within the CAMBER consortium or project collaborators solely for research, infrastructure monitoring, or evaluation purposes.

Where possible, data may be anonymised or aggregated before analysis or sharing.

Data Retention

Collected data may be stored for the duration of the research project and may be retained for research and infrastructure monitoring purposes in accordance with applicable data protection regulations.

GDPR Compliance

Any processing of personal data is carried out in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR).

Users may request access, correction, or deletion of personal data where applicable.
